The pineapple, bonnets, hair wraps, and satin pillowcases are all words you have probably heard of when researching curls… but what does it all mean? Sleeping with curls is for sure a struggle, especially knowing your first day curls are going to fall out, but these methods are going to preserve your curls and hold your curls a lot better. How do I sleep with curls? Well personally, I love satin. Satin is going to save your skin and your hair. I always sleep with a satin pillow for two reasons, 1. Acne Control and 2. Less Frizz Prone Hair. Satin allows for slipping and sliding when you sleep, therefore preventing frizz. Your curls won't get caught on the pillow case due to the fabric’s texture. It also allows for your hair to stay extremely soft. I could be on 3rd day hair but my curls would be be extremely soft because of the satin. Now onto my personal technique, I sleep using a satin scrunchie and a satin hair wrap. I have tried satin bonnets but they tend to slip off when I sleep and hurt my head after a while. Switching to a hair wrap was the best decision I ever made for myself. I gently pull all my hair above my head and wrap the scrunchie around my hair one time. I pull my hair wrap forward while the scrunched, elastic side is on the back of my head. I then tuck all the access hairs and baby hairs into the wrap. At this point, I look like a cone head but its alright because it’s for the curls! This method has saved me from running out of product and energy because my curls can go days without washing now.
